Musixmatch: NO more exclusion for profit. Let's restore the COMMUNITY spirit.
El problema
We have posted an update regarding Musixmatch's response, read it by clicking here or scroll down to the “Updates” section on the page.
The community of artists and users of the different streaming platforms is affected by the recent update of Musixmatch's policies.
Now, only mission lyrics are sent to digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and others, leaving the rest of the lyrics out. This means that the lyrics of lesser-known, under-resourced artists are not reflected on the platforms, despite being verified by Curators (a role that Musixmatch defines in its Help Center by saying that “A Curator’s status reflects the quality of their lyrics”).
What’s at stake?
If this situation does not change, Curators will lose the opportunity to have their effort and hours of work reflected on the platforms. Users in general will be restricted in their ability to access a decent catalogue of lyrics on their usual streaming platforms, and the platforms will continue to lose money by paying Musixmatch for a “half-baked” service that only provides lyrics selected by the company. In other words, if we don’t act to change this, censorship of the remaining lyrics will continue.
It’s time to act NOW!
This policy is still new, and we have the chance to make Musixmatch backtrack. Musixmatch must remember that it wouldn’t be the leading lyrics platform in the market if it weren’t for its community of users, curators, and artists, who for years have contributed to expanding the platform’s catalog mostly for free and in a disinterested way.
Musixmatch, listen to your community!
Musixmatch, we know that we all make mistakes, and making such a far-reaching decision without first asking your users was one of them, because if you exist because of your community, you should listen to it. And the community is asking you to abandon these censorship policies and go back to treating ALL lyrics submitted by curators equally, regardless of whether they are part of missions or not.
Join the change!
The world need your help to make a difference. Sign this petition now and let Musixmatch know that we demand fair treatment for all artists and curators!
