Lou Anna Simon has finally been arrested for lying to the police and helping to cover up a felony. But there are still students who have not seen justice for MSU's past malfeasance, and I'm asking you to please help.
As signers of my petition know, MSU retaliated viciously against members of a student government group that complained that 1) a staff member was using their position of authority to troll students for sex; 2) that problems regarding a sex offender and the safety concerns this created re. the personal safety of graduate dorm residents were ignored; and 3) that members of MSU's residence life staff failed to intervene in a suicide attempt of which they'd been warned (several days in advance).
Students like myself spoke out--and MSU's administration did what it ALWAYS does: cover the problem up.
First they tried to "overthrow" the student government to silence complaints... that didn't work.
Then they stole the student tax dollars that supported the group by forging a signature for Bank1 (that is a felony)... and it didn't work either.
When the students went to The State News to raise awareness, administrators told the reporters that they believed there was "an element of race" in the students' actions--and then they charged the whistle-blowing students with racism in the campus judiciary... that silenced one student, but I persisted...
Then they finally stopped me from talking by threatening to out me and a friend of mine as gay. That worked.
It's time for MSU to acknowledge what it did in the 1990s, to apologize, and to make the people it damaged whole. I and another student are still paying off over $140,000 in student loans for degree programs that we were forced out of.
Please share this latest development widely, and encourage your friends and social media acquaintances to both sign and share my petition. MSU still is refusing to respond in any manner.
Thank you, and I hope you have a truly blessed thanksgiving.
