As signers of my petition know, I myself survived harassment and abuse on the basis of sexual orientation from MSU administrators in 1992. It's less known that I also worked in the Osteopathic College--where Larry Nassar's abuse went on for years. The Detroit News is correct here--women complained to former MSU President Lou Anna Simon for years about Dean Strampel's conduct. The most she ever did was tell him to "tone down the tailhook thing." Strampel helped turn around financial problems that had developed under former MSUCOM deans, and he did this with great competency. This is why Simon took no action. MSU NEVER ACTS until problems become an enormous crisis.
