In the 90s I was coerced to stop speaking about how MSU's Residence Life system was ignoring sexual misconduct by an employee--and how it had failed to intervene in a suicide attempt of which staff had been warned. HOW? They threatened to OUT me as GAY. (And when that didn't work, they threatened to OUT a friend of mine)!
