After attempting to address this issue with the city for over three years now, the one sound you'll hear consistently is crickets.

I was doing more research on the issue and found this Reddit which was created about 11 months ago. Someone had painted the message you see in the photo on the monument. There's a lengthly discussion by many redditors which was encouraging to see!

Another article suggested the land is owned by the Daughters of the Confederacy. I will do more research on that subject. I can't imagine it is true however due to initial research on typical cemetery agreements.
