We've worked with all of you on this petition for three years now. Let's push our city to remove this inappropriate monument from a public graveyard on grounds maintained by all taxpayers - including Black Americans who are direct descendants of those who slave owners believed they owned, and then brutalized and often times murdered at the drop of a hat.
Do not believe for a minute of slave-owning days were a romantic period. This was a time of living hell for millions of slaves, who literally built America's economic base, and today have little financial or social foundation to show for it. That's because efforts made by groups that erect monuments like this have for over a century strategically undermined every opportunity Black Americans have had to get a leg up.
This monument represents an anchor to Black America. Sign this petition and urge our political leadership this is not the San Diego we want. Thank you for supporting and sharing!
