The Issue

I write as a proud resident of Birmingham, a city where every citizen is active and embodies a spirit of unity. Most importantly, I write as a former council employee who has experienced first-hand the financial mismanagement happening within our Birmingham City Council. We the residents are forced to bear the unpleasant aftermath caused by unnecessarily extravagant spending on non-essential items such as meetings held in luxurious locations, as opposed to our council-owned offices. This wastage of resources is devastating, especially considering that the funds could be allocated to more pressing issues within our wonderful city.

Reports have indicated that local councils across the UK spend an average of £14.5 billion annually. It is disheartening to fathom the portion of this budget that is potentially mismanaged by our local council due to seemingly inflated expenditures (Institute for Fiscal Studies, 2018).

Our unity as a city fuels our resolve and our strength encourages us to demand change. The immortal words, "United we stand, Divided we fall" have never been more pertinent. Being residents of Birmingham, we must refuse to lie down flat in the face of this ill-advised spending. We are more robust, more driven, and we will not let our local government's misplaced priorities adversely affect our lives.

This blatant disregard for public funds needs to be addressed. Therefore, we call upon you, the responsible citizens of Birmingham, to sign this petition and demand responsible and efficient spending practices from our Birmingham City Council. Let us stand united, let us demand the change we deserve. Your signature matters!
