The Issue

Nothing can or will ever restore the lives of the two vibrant, fun-loving, young people from our community brutally taken away by a drunk driver's reckless and careless choice….and yet another victim that has miraculously survived, but made to endure mass amounts of pain due to the carelessness and choice this person made by being drunk and getting behind the wheel.

Not a day has gone by without their families wishing their loved ones could come home again. Yet knowing….that this will never happen. No more birthdays to be celebrated. No holidays. No firsts for these young lives gone too soon. Never to take another breath of fresh air…..to feel the warmth of the sun….or simply…to dance in the rain.

Though a horrible tragedy, this is not just an isolated case.

Every day, according to the Centers for Disease Control, there are approximately 29 people in the United States who lose their lives in motor vehicle crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver. This translates to one death every 50 minutes, a statistic alarmingly common and totally preventable.

We find ourselves in the midst of an urgent crisis. Drunk-driving is a deliberate and violent crime that kills thousands of people every year, etching a mark of irreparable devastation on families and communities. The current penalties for drunk driving in our country are simply insufficient to dissuade repeat offenses. The time has come to put a halt to this continuing menace. The time has come, for all of you to take a stand for those who cannot. These victims will never again have their voices heard.

Be….their….voice.

We, the community and the families of these victims, call for the implementation of harsher fines and stiffer sentences for all drunk drivers across the nation, in hopes of sending a clear message that the risk-taking resulting in the taking of lives at the expense of others will not be tolerated.

We urge lawmakers to please re-evaluate the current legislation. To help protect innocent lives and deter those considering getting behind the wheel who are under the influence. Remember our youth, remember the unbearable pain their families are being made to endure on a daily basis and….put yourself in their shoes. Think of your families….think of your loved ones

The victims of this careless act, didn’t get that choice. They don’t get their say in court. Help us….be their voice.

Please honor their memories by helping to prevent such a tragedy from reoccurring.

Please join us and add your signature to this petition and help urge our legislators to take immediate action.
