Move Utah High School Girls Golf from Spring to Fall

Move Utah High School Girls Golf from Spring to Fall
The Issue
The girls who play high school golf in Utah deserve to play when the golf courses are in playing condition. Golf courses in central and northern Utah aren't in playing condition until May. This season (2023) has been terrible because of extreme weather; however, the fact remains that spring weather is always unpredictable and the girls are often playing in stormy, cold conditions (if they are able to play at all).
The boys (who play in the fall) are able to practice and play in junior tournaments throughout the summer, so they play their best golf during their season when the golf courses are in prime condition. It is the opposite for the girls. The girls are hitting off of mats the entire season, if they are able to get out and practice at all. By moving girls' golf to the fall, the girls would get the same experience as the boys. Spring is a cold and miserable season for the girls. Girls often do not come back year after year because they don't want to play in cold, windy, wet conditions. We are trying to encourage girls to become lifelong golfers, not discourage them.
The girls also miss more school than the boys. The boys are able to start at the beginning of August. This is often two to three weeks before school has started. Since golf tournaments start in the morning, this means that students who are on the golf team miss the entire day of school when participating in a tournament. Since the girls' season is in the spring, they are often missing hard-to-make-up tests such as AP tests and finals. The boys, who play in the fall, do not have to deal with missing final-type exams. This is another reason why the girls' season should be moved to the fall.
If we don't push for change, it will never happen. The girls deserve to play when the courses are in their prime condition and the weather is stable, just like the boys. Please sign the petition to get the conversations started about moving the girls' season from the spring to the fall.
Thank you for the support!
