Move The College Board AP Test Scoring Out Of Florida

The Issue

Governor DeSantis (FL) has rejected the AP African American History course developed by the College Board as he believes it violates Florida’s recent “Stop W.O.K.E Act.” As of today (1/24), 5 AP Scoring summer sessions are scheduled at the Convention Center located in Tampa, FL. The center is booked solid with thousands of professional readers dumping money into an economy whose leader does not support the content of the College Board courses and exams. These professionals work long hours through thousands and thousands of exams, spend money at their local restaurants and bars and shops, book up their hotels, book flights into their airport—millions of dollars each summer spent from June 1-17 in Florida. Millions.

In addition, the CB has decided to cower to DeSantis’ ridiculous law and “update their course to meet his requirements.”

We should be outraged. The College Board needs to do better. Our students and teachers of color deserve access to history, ALL of it. All 332,000,000 people living in the United States deserve to feel that their history has value—and that there is something to learn, even from its darkest parts.

I implore you to sign this petition, share this petition, call and write these entities and express your outrage. Demand that the College Board move the reading out of a state whose leader says that African American History “significantly lacks educational value.” Demand that they boost the economy in a state where ALL people are valued.

No matter your skin color, how would you feel if a government leader (and potential presidential candidate) told you that your history doesn’t matter?

Jeremy Singer and David Coleman, hear this statement: Your African American Studies course DOES have value, today more than ever, and students across the nation deserve an opportunity to learn from our past in order to make real change in our future. They deserve this opportunity no matter what state they live in. Please, send a message to DeSantis that he does not get to decide what version of history makes its way in our history books.
