Since Covid lock down has been lifted, the US has ended up with pilot shortages. The excuse of not having enough pilots has allowed the Federal government to loosen up regulations and put a bunch of so called "Flight school” on top of densely populated residential neighborhoods. Some states and Cities like Portland, OR or Henderson, NV have regulations in place to protect their residents, whereas places like Las Vegas don’t. 

While there are almost no planes in KHND (Henderson) on a daily basis now, the traffic west of KVGT (North Las Vegas) is dominated by a bunch of flight schools and touring business with dark history of previous fatal crashes, engine failure, and safety concerns. Most of these so called “flight schools” are just touring businesses, constantly flying low over Sumemrlin golf courses for their joyride. They are enjoying the scenery and making money off of Summerlin golf courses, at our expense. They operate as early as 5 am and acoustically drive bombing Summerlin as late as 9 pm. Golf courses targeted on a daily basis are Sun City Summerlin, TPC Summerlin, Queensridge, and arroyo golf club.

These so called “Touring businesses” are registering under “flight school” in order to avoid oversight in terms of maintenance and pilot training. They are taking advantage of no regulations in Las Vegas, operating their touring business under "flight school" and putting a bunch of tourists on top of homes, as "student pilot". Banned or kicked out of other places, these rogue pilots and business (some registered outside NV) have found their safe haven: “North Las Vegas Airport” with no ordinances or regulation and they are using Summerlin community as their FREE auxiliary training ground.

Here are the top offenders (date: 6/8/2023)

Sky Combat Ace (5 of their E300s took off over Sun City Summerlin just a while ago). SCA has had history of previous fatal crashes and safety concerns. Banned in Oceanside CA and kicked out of Henderson, they are operating at KVGT now.

Vegas Aviation which has VERY frequent scheduling and has been looping early in the mornings and late at nights, deliberately TARGETING Sun City Summerlin and TPC. They are ABUSING this airspace for the excuse of "pilot shortage". Recently Vegas Aviation experienced Landing Gear Collapse and their planes sustained substantial damage to the left aileron and left wing. They are not even trying to get out of desnely populated areas to practice outside. 

CHENNAULT FLYING SERVICE is based in KENTUCKY, operating at KVGT, The company has had long history of safety issues and fatal crashes. March 2023, one of their Plane crashed at Lantana airport in Palm Beach County: 2 die when aircraft crashes, catches fire. Their Diamond DV-20 N857PA is constantly flying over Sun City Summerlin golf courses for the view, early mornings.

Recently, Diamond DV-20 N857PA made emergency landing in northwest Las Vegas. According to the FAA, N857PA had to land due to "engine issues." https://www.ktnv.com/news/plane-low-on-fuel-made-emergency-landing-in-northwest-las-vegas-nevada-state-police-said

West Airflight Training using SCS as their training ground, not even trying to get in and out of KVGT anymore, Flying over golf courses constantly.

Some of these low flying planes are NOT even trackable on Flgihtaware (the software is very reliable and it even shows police and military planes). It seems likely that they may be deliberately and unlawfully turning off their transponders not to be tracked. 

It is unnecessarily to put these many tourists and student pilots on top of homes, most of these businesses can easily be moved to outside the City Limit like Jean Airport. These are extremely lightweight aircraft and can easily take off and land, even on the side of a road, or in an auxiliary airport outside the City border. The aggressive and constant maneuvering of these low flying planes are THREATENING the RESIDENTS AND SCARING their pets. At the very least, minimum altitude can be changed considering that the FAA is sending heavy traffic related to touring businesses on top of densely populated residential homes west of KVGT. 

  • Please Contact Las Vegas FSDO (702) 617-8500 and file a safety compliant against low flying planes (mostly touring businesses ) like Sky Combat Ace, Vegas Aviation, CHENNAULT FLYING SERVICE and West Airflight Training and other LLCs for excessive looping, targeting and deliberately practicing right on top of Sun City and Summerlin golf courses and homes.
