Morenci's celebrated tradition, the Homecoming, is a special occasion for our community, especially for our hardworking football team leading the game. But our football stars, and others, don't get the opportunity to fully enjoy and participate in their own Homecoming dance when the game runs late into Friday night. It is proposed that the Homecoming dance be moved to the Saturday following the game. This change will give our athletes a much needed rest and the opportunity to celebrate their efforts, while also allowing for better scheduling of events around game time. According to Athletic Insight, rested athletes perform 20% better - we should consider this for our athletes' welfare as well as for the spirit of the Homecoming event (Source: Athletic Insight Journal). We now call on the Morenci School District to make this change for the upcoming Homecoming—and those in the years to follow—to ensure both victory on the football field and fun at the dance.
