Out of an abundance of caution, due to the forecast of possible thunderstorms in the area this afternoon, the district has made the decision that graduation is being held indoors. (HOWEVER THERE IS HARDLY ANY RAIN ON THE FORECAST)

This means that ONLY ticketed persons will be admitted to the gym to witness the ceremony live. Each student out of both Stamford and Westhill High Schools have been given only two tickets for families and friends. This is an incredible inconvenience to all of those who have traveled from far locations solely to attend the unlimited OUTDOOR graduation. Families who have fought day and night to see their children succeed and have to make the executive decision to pick only 2 attendees.

All students are incredibly distraught by this decision as it has been decided disregarding any of the ACTUAL graduates opinions. The decision was made by administration and staff who attend graduations every single year and are intimidated by a little bit of water. It is NOT THEIR graduation.

On behalf of the Class of 2024, we each would rather graduate in the slightest bit of rain, then sit in a HOT, MUGGY and HUMID gymnasium. The body heat of over 1000 people in a tight gymnasium will be worse than rain. The 80+ degree weather on top of a NOT AIR CONDITIONED gymnasium is horrific and destroys the one graduation this group of seniors gets. 

This grade experienced no 8th grade graduation due to COVID-19. And now, they will never get a true high school graduation despite a pandemic. It’s because of the slightest chance of rain.

Please sign this petition to potentially get graduation moved back outside. This is not how the class of 2024 wants to remember or experience today.
