After 19 months, 2 of 4 Board Supervisors legally, logically, and reasonably denied this monstrous solar application across 1,000 acres. Not surprising, Chairman King Gormont and his Golfing Pal Patterson voted in "unison" for the Florida applicant, despite almost 1,000 local residents in written opposition.
It is expected that NextEra will appeal and/or has a Plan B, as they don't really care what the greater community thinks or wants regarding this invasive and incompatible land-use around 168 adjacent properties.
Although denied, it is sad that the entire BOS did not unanimously vote against this outrageous proposal like the Planning Commission that would impact every aspect of our rural community, property values, and wildlife. Unfortunately, tax-paying residents now have to pay thousands of extra dollars for the Township Solicitor to prepare two legal briefs for a tie verses a denied 3-1 decision.
Just like the current solar ordinance, the proposed conditions of approval by the two "Yes" Supervisors were absolutely cowardice, ridiculous, and woefully irresponsible, again rolling out the red carpet for the applicant and welcoming this Trojan Horse to Mount Joy Township instead of protecting local taxpayers with comprehensive/ commonsense conditions?
However, there were tears of joy from heaven (rain showers) and a rainbow minutes, immediately following the "No" votes tonight...
Interestingly, the Board also shared and signed a written statement covering that at least 4 out of 5 Supervisors were not corrupt, but for some reason they left out the Vice-Chair from signing who reportedly resides in Germany Township with two solar leases, and an interesting, but unrelated Google search of Melissa Kay Balko, recently hired as Assistant Treasurer, Ms. Zirkle?
