📆The Pender County Board of Education will meet in a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 6:00 PM.
🗺️The meeting will be conducted at the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center located at 798 US HWY 117 , Burgaw, NC 28425.
🌊Let’s meet and discuss our concerns with the implementation of the three-tier schedule and come with solutions and a plan for moving forward.
This isn’t the “schools” issue. This is the COUNTY’s issue. The schools were given no choice in the matter.
The first week of school comes with adjustments, but the real issue is that the district and BOE should have taken parent’s input into account when creating this schedule and these routes.
Families have been forced to completely rearrange their lives over these so-called ‘minor’ adjustments. First-week hiccups are expected, but this is not that; this is a clear failure in planning and oversight. The responsibility rests squarely on the district and the BOE for approving a plan that failed to prioritize efficient and reliable transportation for students, and the problem continues to repeat itself. When the County makes changes that negatively affect the entire student and parent population while ignoring evidence-based research, it becomes a county-wide crisis. The BOE needs to directly engage with its constituents and have the courage to admit this was the wrong decision.
