Right now a Greenpeace ship is sailing the Atlantic Ocean. It’s goal to build the strongest possible case for protecting the world’s oceans.
From the north to the south pole, this expedition is documenting and confronting environmental destruction at sea, from oil drilling to the plundering of the Atlantic Ocean by industrial fishing vessels. All the evidence we gather is being used to build a powerful case for world leaders to grant unprecedented protection to the oceans.
Four months into the expedition and already over one million people worldwide have joined the call for ocean protection. Greenpeace has confronted unsustainable shark fishing at sea and held a historic meeting with the Icelandic Prime Minister on board their ship. But there’s still so much more to do ahead of the UN Global Ocean Treaty meeting next year.
The next legs of the journey will focus on plastic pollution, destructive fisheries, oil drilling and other threats to the world’s oceans. Greenpeace is building a political strategy to gain support among world leaders.
With a new global ocean treaty on the table at the UN, we must seize this historic opportunity. If it’s approved, it’ll open the door to protecting almost a third of the oceans by 2030.
Help protect our oceans and our precious mother earth and sign this petition and share today so that more support is shown worldwide for this most important UN Global Ocean Treaty meeting.
