A builder on The Promenade in Somers believes it’s reasonable to have 8 vehicles on site everyday overflowing out of the building site and into a narrow residential dirt road where there are no car spots and signage exists stating no parking except on residential properties.

Over the course of a year, the builders have moved all the bins on bin night so they can park two of the eight vehicles immediately out front illegally, shoving the bins on top of vegetation in the street, which has now recessed and increased corrosion and artificially widened the street.

The illegally parked cars are also creating a safety hazard as the street becomes single lane further down and at the corner it has become impossible to see any oncoming traffic or pedestrians coming back from the beach, leading to many near misses even at low speed.

The site manager has refused to compromise and park the two extra vehicles on Parklands Avenue or the Yacht Club which is 100m away, where the property owner is a high ranking official coincidentally.

The owner is also placing the speed of build and relationship with their builder above public safety and the environment, which is very disappointing.

We call on the Mornington Peninsula Shire to take appropriate action to enforce protection of public safety and the environment of The Promenade Somers.
