We respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, who are the Traditional Owners of the land in which we live.

We pay our respects to the Wurundjeri people and their Elders, past and present. We recognise their continued connection to the land and waters of this beautiful place, and acknowledge that they never ceded sovereignty.

The City of Moreland has a name doubly loaded with ingrained racism. ‘Moreland’ was a large slave plantation. Its name was introduced by a land speculator participating in the dispossession of Indigenous occupants. 

The name is insensitive and disrespectful. Keeping it is untenable. This provides a timely opportunity for the City and community to select a name that reflects respect and recognition, and can serve as a catalyst for truth-telling and healing.
