More Jewish children targeted. We must act to end anti-semitism NOW!
The Issue
On March 12, 2026, a vehicle was driven into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Shots were exchanged. A security guard was injured. Inside that building were 140 preschool children.
All of them survived. That is a blessing. But the fear those families felt in those moments is something no parent should ever experience.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind this attack. But what is not under investigation is this: Jewish communities across the United States have been forced to think about security in ways that no faith community should have to. Synagogues hire guards. Parents worry during drop-off. Children practice safety drills.
We cannot accept this as normal.
Congress and the Department of Justice must act with urgency to strengthen protections for Jewish communities and confront antisemitism wherever it appears. That means expanding and fully funding the Nonprofit Security Grant Program so synagogues and Jewish schools can protect their congregants. It means prioritizing the investigation and prosecution of hate crimes. And it means investing in education and prevention efforts that address antisemitism before it turns into violence.
This is not a partisan issue. Protecting children is not political. Religious freedom is not political. Safety in houses of worship is not political.
Jewish children deserve to learn, pray, and grow without fear. Families deserve to gather in their synagogues without wondering if today is the day something terrible will happen.
We call on federal leaders—Democrats and Republicans alike—to come together and take meaningful action to confront antisemitism and protect Jewish communities across this country.
No child should be targeted because of their faith. Not now. Not ever.
