I am a resident who has lived in the Tehachapi city limits for the past 40 years. A significant part of my life and self-sufficiency has been the ability to service my own vehicle and park my trailer on my property. Recent changes with enforcing our local city code now prohibit this, dramatically impacting my routine and infringing upon my rights as a homeowner. 

The city's decision to ticket regular homeowners like myself suggests a troubling shift in our town. We understand and respect the importance of efficient planning and zoning, but our legislation should consider the livelihoods and historical practices of its long-time citizens. 

Nationwide, several cities have given weight to similar petitions and have successfully amended their residential parking and vehicle repairing laws. For instance, the officials in the City of San Antonio, Texas, revised the city's code to allow residents to repair vehicles in their driveways, realizing the importance that this holds for many homeowners (Source: The City of San Antonio, Texas, Code of Ordinances).

Amending the current code would not only acknowledge our personal rights but also honour the town's multi-decade tradition of homeowners' liberties. It is essential that our city councilor's and mayor's office respect the legacy and standing practices of our community, and provide lawful pathways for residents to live their lives as they have been for decades.
