I am a proud Native American Indian. My mother and brother both have their enrollment numbers, identifiers of our rich heritage and an official recognition of our belonging to the tribe. However, due to the closure of the enrollment list by our tribe, I am now unable to obtain my own number, despite my ancestry and rightful claim. This is not merely about possessing a number — this is about my identity, my roots, and the essence of who I am. The closure of the enrollment list affects not only me but also countless others in our community who wish to assert their tribal identity.
