Leaders lead, which is why they're called leaders. But not in the case of Senate Majority "Leader" Mitch McConnell. Following the El Paso and Dayton mass shootings McConnell made statements about taking action on gun control, remarking "Senate Republicans are prepared to do our part." Interviewed on Louisville radio station WHAS, McConnell said “What we can’t do is fail to pass something,”
Given his past opposition to any new federal gun regulation, it's no surprise that McConnell has walked back his promises. Rather than leading on the issue, he is abdicating responsibility by deferring to President Trump, who is bought and paid for by the NRA and clearly has no intention of pushing forward on new gun regulations.
That's why we must keep the pressure on McConnell to act. Thanks to your help, we have more than 15,000 signatures on our petition demanding that the Majority Leader ban assault weapons and pass other common-sense gun control measures.
