Chemical Castration for Registered Sex Offenders in the state of Kentucky

Chemical Castration for Registered Sex Offenders in the state of Kentucky

The Issue

This petition is to garner support for chemical castration of registered sex offenders. There are eight states in the United States who have laws regarding this, and with your support, Kentucky could be the ninth. Chemical castration has reduced repeat offenses from 75% to 2%. In California, at least fifteen offenders have requested this procedure as an alternative form of punishment. Kentuckians should be taking every preventive measure to make sure there is adequate consequence for harmful, life-altering crimes committed against children. This petition would propose that someone convicted of a sex offense against a child under the age of consent, 16 in the state of KY, will begin chemical castration a month before release from custody. Chemical castration involves administering medication -- via tablets or injection -- to take away sexual interest and make it impossible for a person to perform sexual acts. This procedure should be upheld for the length of their lifetimes as part of compliance measure. If not upheld, additional sentencing should be mandated until procedures are followed.
