Richard Stallman (aka RMS) was asked to resign from his position. after serving his academic institution for around 50 years, and was also asked to resign from Free Software Foundation (FSF).
The reason behind this decision is apparently an email where he didn't align with a single thought and he became victim of a new subtle form of mccarthyism (which has taken place in the last decade in the US). 
In his message he freely expressed his opinion on a particular matter, regarding an episode in the Epstein affair. This message was sent to colleagues on a mailing list. 

A you girl pretended to be shocked when she read the email and decided to crucify RMS by publishing the content of the message on a social network in order to ask his dismissal from MIT. 
The action of the student had the obvious consequence of triggering a public beating against RMS, and the other people taking part at the debate had obviously put their thumb down to authorize the access of the lions in the arena. 

I kindly ask everyone to support a reasonable freedom of thought, without the need of fearing dramatic consequences, for every single word that we pronounce and, ultimately, refrain from supporting any form of dictatorship of the masses (particularly those consisting of public pillories).

You are not supporting myself, you are not supporting RMS (who has money to survive the rest of his life).
You support a reasonable freedom of thought and freedom of speech.
