Missouri Camps Have to be Regulated to Keep our Children Safe

Missouri Camps Have to be Regulated to Keep our Children Safe
The Issue
Today, Missouri is still failing to protect all children attending public and private summer camps.
There are now three bills introduced to address camp safety:
Missouri House Bill 3142 – sponsored by Representative Cameron Parker
Missouri House Bill 2982 – sponsored by Representative Michael Burton
SB 1642-Legislation introduced by Senator Schroer to strengthen camp safety standards
Our son TJ drowned because county employees failed to follow or enforce policies. His death was preventable.
-Pool was open with one life guard to 50 kids
- CPR was not done properly and the AED machine was not used
The call was routed to the wrong 911 dispatch
and No emergency action followed
The day TJ died the system failed him. Tjs unfathomable death brings light to a problem we need to change.Camps should have protection in place. Child harm has happened in camps over many years. The state of Missouri has failed our children in the past. Let's not allow this pattern to continue.
Ask yourself what is the difference between childcare facilities and summer camps
Across this nation, children continue to drown. They suffer preventable injuries. And many endure unimaginable sexual abuse at camps that are supposed to protect them.
Camps are childcare operations — often with even greater risks.
Yet in Missouri:
Camps are not required to have certification for high-risk activities.
Camps are not required to have trained CPR or First Aid personnel on site.
Camps are not required to have emergency action plans for active shooters, natural disasters, or disease outbreaks.
Camps are not required to conduct background checks.
Camps are not even required to be licensed.
Almost anyone can open a camp and operate however they choose.
That is not freedom.
That is negligence.
Lets keep our children safe. Raise Awareness and Spread the word so we are all aware of the danger and lets make a change today!
Tell the Missouri government to act now and not to allow another child to pay the price
