"Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that he had promised to include Valmiki-Boya community in the ST list during his padayatras and in the election manifesto and that he would fulfil this promise" The State government would take up a comprehensive survey on the socio-economic conditions of various communities and based on the report, measures would be taken to eradicate poverty, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said. Steps would also be taken to ensure that all communities get the benefits of government schemes by following the ‘damasha’ (proportionate representation) system, he said. Efforts would be made to declare Valmiki-Boya community people present in large numbers in some areas of the State as STs, he added. Representatives of Valmiki-Boya community, led by Government Chief Whip Kalva Srinivasulu, met Naidu at the Chief Minister’s Office here on Monday. They submitted a representation to the Chief Minister seeking inclusion of this community, which is currently in BC-A list, in the ST list as was done in Karnataka. They said that Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana and other States had included Valmiki-Boya community in the ST list. They recalled that efforts to include Valmiki-Boya community in the ST list had been initiated during the tenure of late NTR and the Telugu Desam Party had promised this in its election manifesto. The Karnataka government had appointed Havanur Commission to study the issue and issued an ordinance in 1991 including the community in the ST list, they said. Naidu said that he had promised to include Valmiki-Boya community in the ST list during his padayatras and in the election manifesto and that he would fulfil this promise. A decision on ST reservation in this regard would be taken after consulting constitutional and legal experts, Naidu said. He said that agitations based on castes, religions and regions would affect development in the State and also discourage prospective entrepreneurs from investing in the State. Unemployment in the State would increase if industries were not set up and hence stringent action would be taken against those indulging in such agitations, Naidu said.
