Misrepresented news re inauguration of Ram Mandir by Australian ABC TV
The issue
Need apology from ABC TV for misrepresenting facts in the news about Ram Mandir inauguration at Ayodhya on 22-Jan-2024
The report by ABC:

- Has no content about the perspective of Australian Hindus
- Comprises entirely of the reporter’s non-factual and subjective views, and does not balance with any expert comments from other perspective.
It contains the following major deficiencies:
1. It claims that there was a mosque at Ayodhya in the 16th century. What happened was that an illegal Islamic structure was erected by an invader from Uzbekistan – Babur around 1528 (or later). No evidence could be presented to the Indian Supreme Court by Muslims that the structure was used as a mosque from 1528 to 1858.
2. Many Hindus and Muslims were killed before and after 1992. The report makes no mention of the hundreds of Hindu kar sevaks who were shot by police and the 1,000 odd Hindus killed by Muslim mobs over the dispute. The report deliberately and incorrectly tries to paint the Hindus are perpetrators and the Muslims as victims.
3. The Indian Supreme Court made a ruling in a civil title suit between aggrieved parties (which did not include the Indian government) over the Ayodhya site. It ruled that Hindus had continuous possession of the site from 1528. The Mandir is being built pursuant to an order of the Supreme Court and the Muslim side have been gifted a 5 acre property on which to build their structure.
4. The claim that Indian PM Modi called for a ‘Hindu supreme state’ is a fabrication. He said no such thing.
5. The claim that Muslims feel sidelined by the Indian government’s policies is another lie. Minorities in India are not only equal in all laws and policies, but Muslims and Christians in particular are given preferential treatment in areas such as religious places and education.
6. There is no legitimate evidentiary basis for the claim that Muslims and other minorities are living in fear in India.
7. The incident referred to at 5:25 was an attack by Muslims on Hindus. Yet the reporter describes it as a clash between Hindus and Muslims.
8. No first-hand account is obtained in this report.
