Sadly, I spent too much time yesterday defending Minno's true owner to the supporters of this vet clinic who came to the https://www.facebook.com/returnminno/ page to post that this situation is all the owner's fault.
They said she was at fault for not updating the microchip. They said she was at fault for not making sure the chip said the dog was lost or stolen. They said she was at fault for not making sure the chip had her correct phone number on it. They said she was at fault for not having a current dog license last week.
(She had a license that lasted 9 months after Minnow was missing, but since she did not have Minno, she didn't update the license. She did update her chip, only the phone number didn't get updated, but the rest of the contact info was good. She did update HomeAgain that Minno was missing.
But NONE of this should matter at all to the case. In all my years of chipping my dogs, not one vet has checked my dogs later to see if the chip is working. Vets chip pets and take the money, but in all my experience with lost and stolen dogs, rarely do vets scan pets unless they are asked to. We really do need improvement in this area. All vets should at least scan new patients. If the woman who had Minno for 20 months had records, why was Minno never scanned?
HomeAgain only has this recent record of Minno being scanned. Her owner was contacted for the first time). Please consider liking Minno's page to help support her, and sharing this petition. We need law enforcement to act on this!
