For too long, cyclists have refused to use the cycle lanes, they've broken road rules, even run red lights and because of these actions have injured small children, and infuriated thousands of New Zealanders.

From 2016 to 2021, the number of cyclists has increased from ~60,000 to over 300,000, whilst the amount of cycling offenses has dropped from 2500/year to less than 150.

Is this because cyclists are kind, respectful road users? No.
It's because the NZ Police & NZ Transport refuse to acknowledge the problems on the roads, and don't put enough effort into enforcing these rules.

Part of the issue is that unlike every other road users, cyclists don't have any sort of mandatory identification signal, they also don't pay any road user charges.

I have personally been physically assaulted by 3 grown men on their bicycles, I simply asked them to move onto the cycle lane as I drove at 20km/h behind them as they road three abreast.

They chased me into the CBD, waited until I got stuck at a red light then hit me through the window, dented my car and ripped off a wing mirror.

We just want the road to be a peaceful and just place for all.

Hon Michael Wood & The Ministry of Transport need to realize that this issue is only going to get much worse until they make cyclists liable for their actions.
