Safe Drivers for Efficiency
May 2, 2016
5000+ of you have signed and agreed that there should be a review of the present 80km/h speed limits on appropriate sections of the highway. At least now it can be reliably reported that there is factual public interest in raising the speed limit, where safe and appropriate.
While your support is clearly evident, we encourage and endorse the obedience of the present laws. We applaud the TTPS in their progress towards reliable enforcement as it will be a vital ingredient for maintaining any posted speed limit.
That being said, 5000+ of you have independently made up your minds on where you stand. This petition is not political, any government administration would have had to address it, but it is cultural. It is about us... about how carefully, courteously and efficiently we wish to drive on our nations's roads, it is about the habits we wish to encourage in terms of road safety and improving our own driving capabilities, our infrastructure, our discipline and our enforcement. It is about progress and development as a country and effecting holistic change.
Believe it or not, even if you are for, or against this petition's objectives, YOUR opinion, YOUR voice and YOUR imagination matters. If nothing else, this petition proves that we the people have a right to be heard and that we, the people, the average road users, can harmoniously agree to disagree and follow reasonable processes to come to well-rounded, well-informed, forward thinking solutions.
Posting speed limits with digital signboards can give the state the option to adjust limits in cases of emergency or when the weather changes drastically in a particular area, or if road works are in progress. This is but one suggestion and we implore you to attend Ministry of Transport public consultations under any administration or party, whenever the opportunity arises, and simply state your point of view and suggestions for progress, while appreciating the same of others. Healthy discussion is the way forward.
Share this petition if you wish to work towards getting all the ingredients required from the multiple stakeholders effect this change. Please sign this petition unless you wish to remain legally capped at 80km/h forever.
