DID YOU KNOW? Single use plastics just don't pollute the oceans. They also pollute the air. That's because of the fossil fuels burned to make plastics. Making just one pound of polyethylene plastic produces three pounds of carbon pollution. And the world produced over 400 billion pounds of disposable plastics in 2015. The emissions don't stop the second we toss out the plastic cups or forks. It also takes energy to truck the plastic to landfills or to recycling centers or to burn it in an incinerator. That all creates even more carbon pollution. The worst offender? Single use plastic items which can't be recycled or where recycled just a tiny bit of it gets recycled like plastic bottles. They create a constant need for plastics which leads to even more emissions. What's the solution? 1?) REFUSE. 2) Reuse plastics whenever you can. 3) Avoid plastics whenever possible. 4) support plastic bans. 5) use plastic free alternatives. Not only will you create less waste, you'll cut your carbon footprint.
