Petition To Extend Semester II/IV/VI

The Issue

Since, January 2019 the atmosphere of Delhi has-been tense. From the violent clashes in universities to delayed results of central universities, the result of semester V for BA English (Honours) has still not even been declared.

Among the pandemic scares of March, schools and universities have been shut however, the exams stand as scheduled. This comes at an unfair cost to public health and well-being. Especially, vulnerable students whose friends and family were directly affected by the turmoil, recovering from other ailments or unidentified trauma can feel unable to even get out of bed on certain days. There are online classes in certain colleges though, the scenario isn't a standard practise in every institution. The backbone of an academic experience is the basic need of a safe, learning environment. Expecting students to perform, distressed and away from their families, already confused and resource-less under this pressure isn't only unfair, it's irresponsible at a society-wide level.

Solution:

I, hereby, request concerned authorities to take the decision of extending semester II/IV/VI in as many universities in the country, at least the capital of New Delhi in order to provide a fulfilling learning experience our esteemed universities pride themselves on. A THIRTY DAY EXTENSION FOR EXTRA CLASSES once the pandemic is off, can ease the burden of thousands of students and would definitely see an improvement in not only the result of the particular semester but also safe guard students' mental health and well-being. This is the action step of a considerate, progressive state.

Certain private institutions in the country like Manipal University have declared shut until 31st May to provide relief. Even if it favours the scales to help just ONE student change her/his future, would thirty days of extra classes and delay of examination come at a cost too high?
