Stop PSUs recruiting through GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

The Issue

Every year nearly thirty companies are recruiting graduates through GATE examination. An average student who dreams to get into IIT or NIT spends one year preparing for GATE couldn’t make it, not because he lacks knowledge, but the candidates topping the examination have more options like getting call letter from more than 4-5 companies and IITs. As a precaution, they are joining IITs as recruitment process in PSUs take long time. After the declaration of results, they are dropping out from IITs and joining in PSUs.

Every year, nearly from each specialization, at least 4-6 students are dropping out from IITs. In case of NITs it is at least 2-3 in number. So, these 6-9 seats are remaining vacant for the entire course. As a result 6-9 average students who want study in IITs or NITs shutting their dreams and ending up in state level PG colleges and the research work in IITs  slowing down. Here what we need is waste management. Apart from cleaning the roads, Government should take it as part of Swacch Bharath Abhiyan.

GATE is research oriented exam as it focuses mainly on taking Post Graduates. Whereas PSUs require application-oriented skilled candidates. Why mixing them and messing up?

All PSUs are not same. They vary from thermal power projects to hydro power projects, steel plants to electronic companies. But why there is just single exam?  How a single exam can decide the fate of every graduate? Should he/she loose one year and wait for another year just because of one exam?

With every year, the percentage of qualifying candidates is falling down. It is 16.84% in2014 and 15.05% in 2015. The number of registrations are also falling down it is 10, 33,625 in 2014 to 9, 27,580 in 2015.

One year is very long. Many students losing their valuble money, energy and precious time after giving 2-3 attempts. Meanwhile, coaching centers raising their fee like anything.

When the government cannot ensure employment, at least it should fix the wastage of post-graduation seats in IITs and NITs.

Please keep GATE just as Post Graduate entrance examination and create a separate body for recruitment in PSUs like IBPS(Institute of Banking Personnel Selection). So that every graduate has better chance to get what he/she wants.

Now the PSUs releasing their recruitment notifications through GATE2016 without much bother. The Government must act quickly and stop PSUs recruiting through GATE so that it can save an average graduate career and research work in IITs.
