The Issue

Back to Wild India is a movement to prevent animals from being held in captivity. Started in 2020 amidst the worldwide lock down.

Animals are held in captivity for the pleasure of humans. How can this be justified? Animals kept in captivity are subjected physical and mental abuse even if their surrounding is similar to their natural environment. Just like humans Animals enjoy freedom in the wild. Animals have family but most importantly just like Humans animals have emotions too. Being held in captivity detriments their Physical and mental health. Can you imagine how it would feel to be separated from your family and friends at a young age and thrown into a cage?

The aim of this petition:

  • Restriction on approval and construction of any new zoo or animal park in India.
  • Release and rehabilitation of wild animals from captivity in zoo or circus or any other kind of establishment in their natural habitat or similar environment.
  • Ban on use of wild animals for commercial purposes including entertainment, tourism or performances( circus). Removal of all wild animals from use under Performing Animals Rules,1973.
  •  Ban on use of birds as pets.
  • Use the aforementioned suggestions to make amendments in The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, accordingly.

This petition will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Animal Welfare Board of India and the Central Zoo Authority at the end of lock down in India.

Together lets step into a better and free world for all living beings.
