Transgender Rights In Singapore

Transgender Rights In Singapore
The Issue
A girl has recently come forward with allegations of discrimination from the Singapore Ministry of Education.
She is a transgender girl who has transitioned from a boy to a girl. Allegedly, she was forced to wear the boys uniform in school, and study a polytechnic course rather than the JC she wanted to go to, simply because she was transgender. She was also denied access to hormone treatment, despite her decision being backed up by medical professionals and the Ministry of Health.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education has made a statement denying her claims, and used the wrong pronouns in their statement. The girl uses “she/her” pronouns, but she was referred to as a “he”. They also encouraged her to talk to school leaders when faced with unkind behaviour from peers. However, she stated that her peers were supportive and it was the Ministry that was not supportive. By pushing away the responsibility to peers, this apology has shown the complete disregard they have for the situation.
If these allegations are true, it brings to light the transphobia that is apparent in Singapore. It is a blatant violation of human rights, and something must be done to change it.
This petition is to let the people’s voices be heard, and to get the Ministry of Education to look into the case and make amends. By which we mean, allowing her to wear the girls uniform in school, allowing her to proceed with her education in JC, allowing her access to the hormone treatment, and increasing the exposure that Singaporeans have to transgender people, thus letting people better empathise with her problems.
