Laura Sliwkanich started this petition to Ministry of Colleges and Universities Ontario and

The Ministry of Colleges and Universities put forward an exemption to many health-related fields to the number of students allowed in an instructional space. This change will allow the listed fields to go back to the 50-person limit, so long as physical distancing can occur. This alteration is to ensure the timely graduation of students from "front-line health related programs that support the healthcare workforce response to COVID-19”. Dentistry was not put on this list.

This decision to exclude Dentistry clearly demonstrates how we are viewed by the government and is an insult to the profession. By excluding us from this list, the first and second year pre-clinical training will be thwarted so long as Toronto remains in lockdown. This exclusion has the potential to delay treating patients in the long-term. All we want is to be included on that list.

We are able to fully abide by the requirements listed in the memo. Without proper training of our pre-clinical students, they will not be able to enter clinical care in a timely manner and treat the thousands of patients that come to the Faculty of Dentistry - many of whom have nowhere else to go to get comprehensive oral care that they need and can afford.

This petition will be sent to Ross Romano, the Minister of Colleges and Universities, to show him that we deserve the same respect and consideration as other health care professions.
