For background, the BC government is proposing to regulate (control) the BC apple industry and we are standing against it.

Fundamentally, the problem is that the amount of Ambrosia apples that is in production is far too high as the current sales channels cannot support. 

Most of the apples - Gala, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Macs sell themselves. They sell quick, in large volumes and for stable prices. However, when it comes to Ambrosia the market is too small, the movement is slow and there’s about 20 different prices being offered to retailers. Furthermore, the payouts for Gala, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith and Macs are solid to our growers and from other private packers that pay their growers. If a grower is still growing Red Delicious, Golden Delicious or Spartans, well they should probably pull them out by now because they are worthless. 
 
The prices of the market are what they are, we can only ask for so much per case or else retailers just go buy out of the US. The proposed Marketing Commission is not going to resolve the abundance of ambrosia apples. 
 
We can’t get more money per apple case, and the cost to run the commission is just going to drive up overhead costs. 

Therefore, we stand against the proposed Marketing Commission as it does not solve the fundamental issues.
