Since the Circuit Breaker, The Straits Times has published at least 3 reports on increasing complaints of neighbours' secondhand smoke.
1. More complaints about noise and cigarette smoke during circuit breaker (May 29, 2020)
2. More fuming as work from home during Covid-19 brings second-hand smoke home (August 30, 2020)
3. Stuck with a neighbour's second-hand smoke (October 12, 2020) >> please see attached image of the premium article or log in with NLB myLibrary ID for free access to all SPH newspapers here
I urge everyone to seize this golden opportunity to voice your concerns and suggestions to our policymakers. A few voices will not make any impact, just like the "only 5% complaints received involving smoking in homes" data cited by Dr Amy Khor.
We need a loud chorus of suffering victims to be noticed and taken seriously before any measures might be introduced to protect us.
Please write-in to The Straits Times or TODAY Voices (guidelines at bottom), like I did and/or continue to report smoking problems both in prohibited places and in homes to NEA*, HDB and Town Council. Thank you.
* for NEA report of smoking in homes, click the last category under "Other Feedback On Environmental Issues" and in the description, write the subject as Re: Smoking in Homes, followed by details of your neighbour's smoke drift frequency, severity and how it has impacted your family's health. Keep a record of your report(s).
