Abolish SEA and any testing for a secondary school place in Trinidad and Tobago
The Issue
The Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) is child abuse, plain and simple. It replaced the Common Entrance exam as the means of terrorising the nation's children at a very early age and cementing divisions in the society.
We are calling on the Minister of Education, Anrhony Garcia, to abolish all exams for a secondary school place and make all schools of the same standard in teaching, infrastructure and funding. We demand high-quality learning facilities and trained teachers to help us prepare our children for an increasingly uncertain future that requires knowledge of environmental issues and survival skills.
It is clear to all that the education system in T&T is a total failure and the SEA is the most glaring and damaging aspect of it. To inflict so much psychological and physical pressure on children from the age of nine, when the kids in developed countries are just STARTING formal education, is the height of cruelty and abuse.
2020 must see the upgrading of all secondary schools to offer the same facilities and level of funding for technology and innovative programmes to bring our education system out of the colonial Dark Ages and into the 21st century.
With the third-highest GDP in the Western Hemisphere, T&T has no excuse for abusing children, and their parents, like this.
