The amazing response to our ongoing campaign to hold AHAR to account sees us racing towards another milestone - 20,000 signatures. Many thanks for your continued support. Please continue to sign and share the petition. Without us, the animals have no voice. Yet another reason for your continued support. This sorrowful and shameful tale is shared by former volunteer Caroline K Morrissey. MRS BUCKET - RIP Today we remember the beautiful Mrs Bucket, sent on transport to UK by Ahar, for what the adopter believed to be a better life. She arrived with Snowy a few weeks previously. They had been on transport for 20+ hours... Arrived caked in faeces and urine and positively stinking. Poor Snowy was unable to walk down the ramp... He stumbled and literally rolled down the ramo. It was a horrendous experience. On seeing his hooves, the vet was immediately called for pain relief. ..all that was left was the hoof wall the hooves had literally imploded. The farrier also attended. They had never seen anything like it. Snowy could only be made comfortable and after a few days the decision was made to let him go. Mrs Bucket was only a degree better. The video you see here was after the third farrier visit. After much agonizing the adopter, her vet and farrier concluded that she was not going to improve and at best would be confined to a concrete space for the rest of her life on a restricted diet and considerable pain relief. They made the devastating decision to also set her free... Not 3 weeks after her arrival from Ireland. A year ago today Mrs Bucket got loads of tlc and carrots and the good haylage she normally would be restricted from, before gaining her wings. The adopter was told that they had had laminitis but that it was controlled. Her helpers got consolation from her antics, Mrs Bucket despite her pain made a burst to get at her carrots and sweet haylage SG on contact about putting Snowy to sleep suggested removing his pedal bone. Such an aged pony would have been most unlikely to survive such a procedure, even less likely to recover... In any case why would you even consider inflicting such a major procedure on a pony almost 30 yrs old....utter insanity. Also at the time the adopter was also saddled with another donkey and mule whom were only mentioned in passing and she had never confirmed that she had space or was willing to have them. No thanks to AHAR they now have a permanent place as therapy animals at a donkey sanctuary. As per usual when this story was highlighted in print media, the AHAR goons proceeded to attack and vilify the adopter, who is self funded, in extremely poor health and utterly devastated by her experience in having to pts two animals she had offered refuge to. AHAR may not give a toss about Mrs Bucket and Snowy. Clearly not when they subjected them to that torturous journey with no pain relief. However we remember you. Run free angels.... You both deserved better. You deserved that those who " saved" ( bought) you had the bottle to do right by you and set you free sooner and not keep you in pain for their own selfish gratification. Let's hope the current 50+ equine inmates have better care. These animals were supposed to have been health checked and approved for travel by DAFM personnel. Is it any wonder we have so little confidence in their outlook towards animal welfare. Do they consider that these two equines were afforded the five freedoms under Irish law??? Ill let you decide.
