Back in March 2017 two collie dogs, a mother and son, were posted on the ahar page. They were found by a fencer and were in shocking condition as can be seen from the ahar post. The dogs were called Nessa and Zorro. SG declared she would foster zorro herself and give all she had to save him. His blood tests had come back clear and he had a fighting chance. Nessa proved to be riddled with cancer and unfortunately didn't make it.
The donations poured in thick and fast and for a little while there were updates on how well zorro was doing
Fast forward to June 2017. Almost exactly three months to the day these dogs were brought into ahar and a post appeared up on a uk rescue page (see below). It described a collie who had come in from an Irish rescue in appalling condition. Weighing a mere 12kg he was matted, foul smelling, passing worms and covered in fleas. Further investigations showed what appeared to be urine scald on his feet. Lo and behold it's the same dog. Zorro, whom SG had promised to give all she had to save him. Only now he needed rescuing from his rescuer.
There is something inherently wrong with a rescue that allows a dog to leave in considerably worse condition that the one he arrived in. Reading the posts around the time he came in shows that a lot of money was raised for his care. It may have been raised for his care but it wasn't spent on him. So where did it go?
It's not just SG at fault here though. In order for this dog to have made it to the uk he would have had to be vet checked before travel. How could any vet think this was ok and signed off in it. Perhaps he or she felt it was better to get the dog out of AHAR. Zorros one of the lucky ones. He made it out. What happens to the unluckier ones? What about the committee who now oversee the charity? Don't they see what's going on under their eyes? Two of ahars most vociferous supporters visited there between march and June. How did they miss this? So many unanswered questions and more than one person to blame....
Rescue is about helping animals out of dangerous, harmful or unpleasant situations. It's about turning their lives around and starting them on a new and happier path. This isn't rescue its abuse and those that close their eyes to it are enabling it.

Zorro is now safely at Valgrays Rescue UK, where he is receiving the best care and treatment.
