Kalen has passed away. RIP Little donkey.
LITTLE DONKEY
Tonight a little donkey called Kalen is still fighting for is life in a totally unsuitable environment.
Donkeys are herd animals. They prefer not to be on their own but in the company of other donkeys. Donkeys will also bond with horses, ponies and have been known to bond with other animals such as goats and cattle.
Within the herd there is a sophisticated hierarchy. The herd might "belong" to stallion but it is organised by the lead mare who will make most of the decisions in the herd.
So what have we here?
A little donkey in a living room....on his own. Yes there are dogs and bird life with the odd human thrown in but to him, he is in his own.
Of course he needs to be kept separate from other equines and animals. That only makes sense. But he is not even within braying distance of others of his own kind. Donkeys are social animals and can become noisy or even depressed when on their own. It's not always the case but it can happen.
What should be happening here?
Well....not this (see screenshot)
For the best chance of survival, the donkey should be taken to a veterinary hospital or clinic. In addition to antibiotics and intravenous (IV) fluids, non steroidals and anti-inflammatories might be required. A hoist and sling might be required to help the donkey stay upright. (Lying down they could drown due to the lung fluid) A nebuliser might be required to aid with breathing. Veterinary hospitals/clinics, especially those specialising in equine health are best equipped to treat pneumonia.
If neither of these is an option, then a warm, dry, clean environment is a good alternative. NOT A LIVING ROOM!
A warm, dry, clean stall is much more suitable.
A heat lamp or humidifier can be used to help improve the stall environment.
Regular check ups by a vet will help increase chances of survival.
AHAR manager, what were you thinking?!
