The issue

The LNP Federal Government is in the process of developing the Engage Early Policy. In draft form this policy has been created to support a One Stop Shop agenda. This policy will severely limit the ability of any community to oppose Big Business Interests

“The One Stop Shop policy aims to simplify the approvals process for businesses, lead to swifter decisions and improve Australia's investment climate.” https://www.environment.gov.au/epbc/one-stop-shop

The Engage Early policy has been developed to work in accordance with the Federal Governments aim to create a One Stop Shop to the environmental approval process. Legislative amendments have already taken place to facilitate this agenda.

Promoted as best practice it is anything but. This policy if enacted will have major impacts for our First Nations People. It will set back their ability to maintain control over their land. A minimum of 20 days for First Nation communities to access and comment on an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is farcical.

To put a time frame on the consultation process with First Nation Peoples and their communities that allows the evaluation of an EIS is not only insulting but negligent. The lasting impacts of business enterprises like the Adani Carmichael Mine could never be addressed within either a 20 or 90 day time frame.

The Engage Early draft policy should be scrapped. The One Stop Shop policy should be torn up. It is a piece of ideology that will aid in the destruction of our environment. The Federal Government needs to be told that these policies are unacceptable. Sign this petition. Show our LNP Government that ordinary people don’t accept the Engage Early policy. Nor do they accept a One Stop Shop for the environment.
