Dear supporters, We are excited to share with you that a 10-Minute Rule Bill to debate civil partnerships has been tabled in the House of Commons for Wednesday 21 October. The bill, proposed by Tim Loughton MP (Con), the former Minister for Children and Families, has cross-party support, and calls for a simple amendment to the Civil Partnership Act 2004: To remove the clause limiting civil partnerships to same-sex couples, thereby effectively making civil partnerships available to all on an equal footing, same-sex and opposite-sex couples alike. The amendment would end the direct discrimination that exists in the current law, and which we are challenging in our Judicial Review. It would be great if you could please speak to your MP about this proposed amendment and ask them to sign up to the bill and support it during the debate on 21 October. If you can, please arrange a visit to their constituency surgery. Alternatively, email or write, telling them why being able to form a civil partnership is important to you, and why they should lend their support to this Bill. The Equal Civil Partnerships campaign has created a template letter (for you to personalise and which you can send for free via https://mrpostman.co/widget/index.php/site/campaign?CampaignCode=EqualCivilPartnerships), as well as a one-page resource sheet (http://equalcivilpartnerships.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/ResourcesheetforsupportersmeetingMPs.pdf), which contains the facts and figures you might want to bring to their attention. You can locate and contact your MP simply by typing your postcode here: http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/. Please do drop our campaigns manager, Ava, a line to let her know when you have written to your MP and keep her posted on their response. Her email is: hello@equalcivilpartnerships.org.uk. Finally, we’ll be at the House of Commons on 21 October, where the Bill will receive its hearing at some point between 12.30 and 15.30. Please tune into BBC Parliament (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/live/bbcparliament) to watch the debate unfold… Thanks for continuing with us on this journey. Many thanks, Charles and Rebecca
