Dear friends and supporters, The campaign for #EqualCivilPartnerships took several steps forward in the last couple of weeks, first when a bill to open civil partnerships proceeded unopposed in the House of Commons, and second with even more supportive coverage in the media explaining why civil partnerships should be available to all. MPs from across the political spectrum supported Tim Loughton’s Ten Minute Rule Bill calling for the removal of the clause that limits civil partnerships to same-sex couples. Among them were Caroline Lucas, Keir Starmer, Stephen Twigg and our impressive and pro-active constituency MP, Andy Slaughter. The bill receives its next hearing in the House of Commons on 29 January 2016, just 10 days after our judicial review hearing at the High Court. You can watch Tim presenting his Bill on BBC Parliament here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06p26g2 Earlier on the same day, Rebecca talked about why we want a civil partnership on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06j2fpg Today’s Observer magazine has a great piece by feature writer Alex Clark with contributions, insights and perspectives from friends and supporters. http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/nov/01/heterosexual-civil-partnerships-is-this-the-end-of-marriage Please share these with friends and family, and visit http://equalcivilpartnerships.org.uk for a full round-up and more ways to get involved. Whilst there is still a long way to go, none of this progress would have been possible without your support. In addition to contributions already received from you, our steering group and foundations, we still require approximately £11,000 to ‘break-even’ on our projected legal costs. Please do consider continuing your support and asking others who are sympathetic to do the same. Thank you again for sharing our commitment to making change for the better possible. With respect, Charles and Rebecca
