Saving Sacred Land

Sacred birthing trees on Djap Wurrung country need protecting. Over 50 generations have been born on these sites & the birthing trees themselves are 800 years old. We seek to further protect them from Victoria's  Labour Party’s planned highway extension that is set to destroy this dreaming landscape.

This area is located just outside of Ararat, and is why the Djab Wurrong Protection Embassy was established, and has been on Country now for over a year. If this 12km stretch goes ahead 3000 trees will be gone, including the sacred trees and their protected habitats. All this devastation is in the name of cutting 3 minutes off the existing highways travel time.

These sacred trees and landscapes deserve protection under the law as they hold huge cultural significance to Australia's First Nations people and in this sense should hold great value to us all. The Minister for the Environment, Sussan Ley now has the power to over turn the recent state Government decision to go ahead with decimation of this area

A alternative route has been shown as a possible solution and we the undersigned, strongly urge the Minister to remain solution focussed and culturally respectful to act immediately to protect this sacred landscape connected to the Dreaming time and its people.
