For some time I've been wanting to publish an update for all of you who so kindly signed the petition to support Khushal all the way back in late 2015, but had been waiting until there was some kind of concrete development to update you with. Unfortunately absolutely no progress, still less a decision, has been made by the Home Office since I wrote last.
With the help of the team at Asylum Aid we have compiled ample evidence strongly corroborative of Kushal's claim, including the initial detailed reports made on his situation by Coalition officials in Kabul, and sources validating the threats against his life.
Amazingly, despite continuous promises from the Home Office to begin looking into his claim, in the roughly 18 months since Khushal arrived in the UK, he has still not even been given his initial asylum interview - with the Home Office breaking their own deadlines time and time again, and without explanation. While we have had our complaint upheld by the Home Office, in accepting that they have clearly contravened their own guidelines many times over, the response has been inadequate in that no provision has been made to rectify the needless delay, leading us to begin exploring options of seeking a judicial review at the High Court.
In the grand scheme of things, a long enforced wait for a decision is not an unbearable hardship. However, the length of delay has now become extreme - this has been an 18 month wait just for his initial interview, just to get the ball rolling in what is normally a very long process by its own right. We have seen so many people with far weaker cases come and go while Khushal is stuck in limbo that it has begun to feel like perhaps more than mere system overload is responsible for the delay. The effect for Khushal is that he remains unable to move on with building a normal life for himself here in the UK.
I hope to have favorable news for all of you who have kindly supported him at some point before the end of 2017, but at this rate it looks unlikely. While I'm not sure that trolling the Home Office is a wise idea, if you feel moved to help once again, emails of complaint highlighting the issue can be sent to complaints@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk quoting reference number T3018535.
Thanks again for signing the petition and best wishes to you all.
