Save Cammeray Park

Save Cammeray Park
The issue
Cammeray Park is Crown Land dedicated for public recreation, a large expanse of treasured public green space with significant canopy trees up to 60 years old, serving Cammeray, Crows Nest, Neutral Bay and Cremorne.
Cammeray Park is at imminent risk of losing up to 2.3ha of public open space, permanently.
The State Government proposes to compulsorily acquire part of the parklands.
This land that will be permanently lost includes Cammeray Dam, a stormwater recycling scheme which cleans and stores water for St Leonards Park and provides water for the golf course and Primrose Park.
The purpose of the acquisition is to accommodate road widening and the "operational facilities" (huge industrial sheds) for the Warringah Freeway Upgrade and the Beaches Link toll road and tunnel project.
Yet, in Rozelle - at the other end of the proposed tunnel - the "operational facilities" are required to be hidden underground with remediated green space over the top.
We call on The Hon Rob Stokes, MP Minister for Planning and Public Spaces and Minister for Transport and Roads to stop the permanent destruction and loss of up to 2.3ha of Cammeray Park and ensure that this precious public parkland remains in public hands for public recreation for future generations.
