Minecraft Bedrock: Stop enforcing the Ore UI

Minecraft Bedrock: Stop enforcing the Ore UI
The Issue
In recent updates to Minecraft Bedrock Edition, Mojang Studios has continued expanding the Ore UI framework across core interface components.
Modernizing internal systems is understandable in a long-running live service game. However, the current implementation effectively enforces Ore UI by replacing legacy JSON-based interface elements without providing users or creators with a choice.
For years, the JSON UI system allowed resource pack creators to modify menus, HUD elements, accessibility layouts, and even redesign entire interface structures. This flexibility supported accessibility improvements, performance-optimized layouts for lower-end devices, and a wide range of creative interface concepts. It was one of the defining strengths of the Bedrock Edition creator ecosystem.
As more components transition to Ore UI, creators are no longer able to customize certain core screens through resource packs. Previously functional UI packs are breaking or becoming partially unusable. Custom layouts that supported accessibility needs or alternative design preferences can no longer be maintained. This represents a significant loss of creative control.
The concern is not the existence of Ore UI itself. Technical progress and architectural improvements are expected. The concern is mandatory replacement without compatibility, documentation, or user-side options.
We respectfully request that Ore UI be made optional rather than enforced.
Specifically, we ask Mojang Studios to:
Provide a toggle allowing users to select between Ore UI and the legacy JSON UI where technically feasible.
Maintain backward compatibility for existing UI resource packs.
Offer clear documentation and a fully supported customization pathway if Ore UI is intended to replace JSON UI long term.
Avoid removing legacy systems without an equivalent, creator-accessible replacement.
Minecraft’s long-term success is built on openness, flexibility, and community creativity. Modernization should expand possibilities, not reduce them. Making Ore UI optional would preserve innovation while allowing the platform to evolve responsibly.
