The Issue

This petition was started by the faithful friends of Dr. Cheryl Fields to create awareness about the discrimination or disparate treatment she (and others) suffer daily due to rare genetic diseases.
Should people with disabilities be judged along the same lines for their skills, education, and job performance, as an able bodied non-disabled job seeker would be?
If the person has an aspect of their disability that they cannot easily control, they should not be penalized for that aspect of their being and should be allowed to work and earn a living. People with disabilities have to and need to work and have a right to work.
The last time I checked: The Declaration of Independence states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." (?)
- *Yes, many of us on this petition have disabilities and some of us do not have disabilities but we want fairness for people that do! We want a person with disabilities like Dr. Fields to work in good positions, what better way to encourage those of us who feel we can NEVER make it in the corporate world due to our disabilities? Dr. Fields gives many of us faith messages daily and calls or visits us on her own dime; it's time she got a decent paying position for her hard work. As her friends we often hear her say "...I was the second finalist, but I did not get the job..." Hmmmmmmm, it is because of her disabilities? Many of us are starting to wonder?
It's not just this employer; it is many employers that may not notice the good in a person with disabilities. No more unfairness, no more excuses, no more delays in hiring or promoting people with disabilities! Even a staff member from MATC is a strong supporter of Dr. Fields and suggested we start a petition.

Thanks for helping “Cheryl”, Dr. Fields (to the outside world). What a sad place we live in? It’s almost like employers receive a monetary incentive NOT to hire people with disabilities? It makes you wonder sometimes?

- *I checked & the deadline for this position is not posted, let's try to get all of this to MATC's contact person to put with Dr. Fields application, by 11/10/13. How can MATC ignore or turn down 100 or more signatures? The President of MATC seems like a very honest, fair, and understanding person, from what Dr. Fields has stated. (Edited, 11/7/13)

I commend Ms. Fields, for having the courage to speak out about her struggles with this condition.
I have represented people who have been terminated because of issues like this that they couldn't control completely. They get written up in evaluations for "personal hygiene issues" even when they have doctors' notes explaining the condition. Many supervisors think they know better! Anyway, I wish Ms. Fields the best of luck. It was somewhat uncomfortable reading this article, so I can only imagine what it's like for her to live with the condition. God bless her.
Another example of courage and dealing with what life, hands you, with grace, Cheryl. Thank you for educating the public, perhaps will bring about a little more understanding about things outside of one's control. Love You! Cheryl, Proud to call you a friend! It takes courage to bring something like this to the public's attention, thank you for having the strength and determination to try to educate the public on a sensitive matter.
